Rumors,
aerial firing stop return of normalcy to Karachi
KARACHI: Karachi could not return to normalcy
even after passage of four days of assassination
of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto, as rumors
about attack on MQM headquarters Nine Zero and
aerial firing of some miscreants in various
areas on Monday once again hit hard the city
trying to limp back to normalcy.
Many markets and commercial centers of the metropolis
opened Monday morning, but the incidents of
aerial firing at M A Jinnah Road and Burns Road
and other areas following the rumors of killing
of Deputy Convener of Muttehida Qaumi Movement
(MQM) Dr Farooq Sattar created panic amongst
traders, transporters and citizens.
The public transport went off the roads and
all markets and shopping centers were due to
fear of fresh spat of violence.
All major markets including Saddar, Empress
Market, Zainab Street, Tower, Eidgah, Boltan
Market, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Tariq Road and others
were closed the rumors and aerial firing.
The petrol pumps and CNG stations, reopened
after four days, were against closed. The police
and LEAs beefed up security and intensified
patrolling in various areas of the city.—Agencies
