Commander Lt Gen Ahsan Azhar Hayat visits Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Corps Commander Lieutenant General
Ahsan Azhar Hayat visited Hyderabad on Monday.
In the Garrison Headquarters, the Corps Commander
was briefed in detail about the latest situation
of Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Dadu,
Sanghar and Nawabshah, where the Army assets are
deployed to maintain the peace after the tragic
incident of December 27, 2007, says a press release
of ISPR issued here on Monday.
The Corps Commander was briefed on the prevailing
situation in the city and its environs. The Army’s
fast deployment and its assistance to restoration
of law and order were highlighted. Within three
days army has provided relief and food to thousands
of stranded passengers escorted a number of convoys
and assisted in the repair and maintenance of
railway infrastructure, rescued more than three
thousand passengers of Awam Express and Hazara
Express from Shadadpur.
The moment Army received a help call from Shadadpur,
troops were moved along with hot food, tea, first
aid, and milk for children, etc. After serving
two times meals passengers were transported from
Shadadpur to Hyderabad and then to Karachi under
protection and supervision of troops. Besides
Army troops Pakistan Rangers Sindh and Police
are shouldering the responsibilities round the
clock. The Corps Commander was informed that Army
troops have cleared all the major hurdles and
road blocks on all the highways and provided safe
route for free flow of traffic. All the major
bridges have been secured and opened for traffic.
