Violence reported in some areas of Thatta

THATTA: Life returned to some normalcy following deployment of Law Enforcement Agencies at government offices and other sensitive places here on Monday. Several shops and markets opened and some traffic was seen on roads in the forenoon hours. LEA and police continued cleaning of roads and kept patrolling. However, the entire city again closed down following incidents of violence here. Again, tension prevailed and people rushed inside their homes in the afternoon. All banks were gutted by miscreants during the violence following the assassination of PPP Chairperson Mohatarama Benazir Bhutto. Manager National Bank of Pakistan Makli branch told this scribe that although all record, furniture and fixtures were reduced to ashes, but the main strong room remained safe. He said that he has contacted the district government for provision of an accommodation so as to run the banking business as soon as possible. The miscreants also gutted and broke all election camps, banners, flags, posters and photograph hoardings of Shirazi candidates of PML-Q here in Thatta city and other towns and villages of the district. According to an official source, the district government was busy in assessment of the losses during the violence. Meanwhile, various police stations started registration of cases of the violence and losses to government and private properties against several local PPP leaders, PPP workers and unknown people here on Monday.
