THATTA: Life returned to some normalcy following
deployment of Law Enforcement Agencies at government
offices and other sensitive places here on Monday.
Several shops and markets opened and some traffic
was seen on roads in the forenoon hours. LEA
and police continued cleaning of roads and kept
patrolling. However, the entire city again closed
down following incidents of violence here. Again,
tension prevailed and people rushed inside their
homes in the afternoon. All banks were gutted
by miscreants during the violence following
the assassination of PPP Chairperson Mohatarama
Benazir Bhutto. Manager National Bank of Pakistan
Makli branch told this scribe that although
all record, furniture and fixtures were reduced
to ashes, but the main strong room remained
safe. He said that he has contacted the district
government for provision of an accommodation
so as to run the banking business as soon as
possible. The miscreants also gutted and broke
all election camps, banners, flags, posters
and photograph hoardings of Shirazi candidates
of PML-Q here in Thatta city and other towns
and villages of the district. According to an
official source, the district government was
busy in assessment of the losses during the
violence. Meanwhile, various police stations
started registration of cases of the violence
and losses to government and private properties
against several local PPP leaders, PPP workers
and unknown people here on Monday.
