Zia-ul-Hassan praises Sindh police for maintaining law & order situation

HYDERABAD: The Regional Police Officer Major (Retd) Zia-ul-Hassan has dispelled the impressions of failure of Police in maintaining law and order in Sindh adding that within available resources, the Police have discharged responsibilities efficiently during the violence erupted since assassination of the former Prime Minister and PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto. A number of Police officers and official have either lost their lives or sustained injuries in maintaining law and order in different parts of the province, since December 27, 2007. While talking to newsmen here at the office of Regional Police Officer Hyderabad Region, he said that the Police succeeded in securing the properties of national importance in different parts of the province. About the control of violence, he said that situation was erupted all of sudden and the criminals and anti-social elements also took advantage of the situation, resulting in looting and damaging the public and private properties at such a large scale. The Police did the best within available resources, he said and replied to another question that performance of the Police would further be improved after upgrading of the Police system in the province. The provincial government is giving due attention for improvement in performance of the Police by upgrading the system, he said and added that Sindh Chief Minister has allocated extra funds for the purpose. Responding to another question, he informed that a total of 45 person have lost their lives in different parts of the province since December 27. The Police have started registration of cases under relevant laws and so far 550 have been arrested on charge of looting and burning the public and private properties, he said and added that only in Hyderabad 61 persons have been booked after registration of 34 cases. The Police also striving for the recovery of looted property, he added.
