India
can climb in ICC rankings even if they lose series
DUBAI: Fourth-placed India are set to climb
to second spot in International Cricket Council
Test rankings even if they lose four-match series
against Australia that started Wednesday in
Melbourne.
India can collect required three points even
if Australia clinches four-Test series 2-1,
said a ICC release. Even a drawn series would
be enough to help India break free from three-way
tied scenario for second position. A drawn series,
be it 0-0, 1-1 or 2-2 will give India five ratings
points and put it on 113 points.
Although India have same number of points, 109,
as second-placed South Africa and third-placed
Sri Lanka, they are actually fourth when ratings
points are calculated beyond decimal point.
India are on high after their recent 1-0 home
win over Pakistan, and can take outright lead
if they manage to score three rating points
in Australia from 11 available.—Agency
