Independence
day celebrations at Aiwan-e-Sadr
to be held as scheduled
ISLAMABAD: The traditional Independence Day
celebrations at the Aiwan-e-Sadr today (Wednesday)
would be held as scheduled and in the same dignified
patriotic manner as always to celebrate the
62nd Independence Day. Presidential Spokesman
Maj. Gen Rashid Qureshi while confirming that
the government had cancelled the I-day celebrations
to be held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr told Online that
the traditional musical gala held on the eve
of Independence Day would be held as scheduled.
The tradition I-day celebrations held on the
eve of Independence Day in which renowned artists
of the country perform national songs, and traditional
dances had been held in the President house
since many years. The spokesman said that the
decision to cancel the celebrations was solely
the decision of the government. He said that
we would hold the celebrations at the Aiwan-e-Sadr
with grace, simplicity and tradition.
He said that invitation cards in this respect
have been dispatched to the guests. On the other
hand, tug of war between Awain-e-Saddar and
Prime Minister house has been intensified followed
by government decision to cancel the mega event
at the presidency to mark the Independence Day
of Pakistan on August 14. When contacted high-level
officials in information ministry as saying
that they have no information that Aiwan-e-Sadr
is going to hold celebrations of Independence
Day at night of August 13 and August 14.—Online
