KARACHI: Experts from Centre for International
Private Enterprise (CIPE), based in Washington
(USA), including Dr. John Sullivan, CIPE Executive
Director, Andrew Wilson, Director for Latin
America, Middle East & Asia-CIPE, Ms. Brooke
Millis, Programme Officer, South Asia-CIPE visited
Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries said
a press release issued on Tuesday. Dr. John
Sullivan, leader of the delegation said that
CIPE being affiliated with US Chamber of Commerce
formulates reforms to be made in various sectors
of the society, with main focus on participation
of private sector, creation of employment opportunities,
social sector reforms and facilitation to the
businesses enterprises.
He said that CIPE in collaboration with Institute
of Corporate Governance and Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Pakistan is currently engaged
in analysing basic hardships, hurdles, impediments
faced by the country’s business and commercial
sector.
Dr. Sullivan said recommendations and strategy
to overcome these hindrances and measures pre-requisite
for a stable economy are also suggested under
the arrangement with Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Pakistan. The CIPE delegation
was also accompanied by Moin M Fudda, Country
Director of CIPE in Pakistan and Hamid Siddiqui.
The guests were warmly welcomed by KCCI President,
Shamim Ahmed Shamsi, Senior Vice President of
KCCI, Iftikhar Ahmed Shaikh, Vice President
of the Chamber, M.Haroon Agar and KCCI Managing
Committee.
KCCI President, Shamim Ahmed Shamsi on the occasion
referred to contribution made by KCCI with regard
to social corporate responsibility. He highlighted
relevance of enabling environment, multiplicity
of taxes and tax agencies, development of infrastructure,
access from farms to market, SME financing,
amendments in labour laws, management of rate
of mark up on financing and drastic measures
to control inflation in context of Pakistan.
The leader of the delegation thanked President
KCCI for fruitful discussion he had at the Chamber
and assured to augment the role of CIPE for
far-reaching reforms and their application towards
well being of the neglected and unattended avenues.
