Govt. Degree College Naudero established by Shaheed BB needs attention of rulers

NAUDERO: The Government Degree College, Naudero is facing multifarious problems, including, dearth of the teaching staff, regularization of the non-teaching staff, sanction of full SNE up to graduation level, start of commerce faculty and post-graduation classes, provision of the latest digital science equipment for conducting practical and provision of computers for the students. The college was established in 1988 during the PPP government of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, but it actually started imparting education to the youth of Naudero and its adjoining areas in 1997 without proper SNE.
The required strength of the teaching staff is 25 while only 11 are working here and most of them are on the deputation. The college requires immediate posting of at least two professors for English, two for Chemistry, one for Physics and one each for Zoology & Botany, one for Geography and one for Computer Science. This college is running without sanction of full SNE by the previous Sindh coalition government, but astonishingly even the present PPP government did not sanction full SNE in new fiscal year 2008-09 and forgot this college which was specifically established by slain PPP Chairperson herself for the benefit of her home town and constituency’s poor youth who cannot afford to travel to Ratodero or Larkana for getting higher education. The students have also demanded that most important Faculty of Commerce and post-graduation classes must also be started here forthwith by Government of Sindh as students wishing to get commerce education and post-graduation are traveling to Larkana or other places.
The college administration wants to start post-graduation classes in English, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Botany and Maths. There is acute shortage of latest digital science equipment/instruments in the laboratory for conducting practical. Moreover there are no computers in the college in this age of computer science.
Mumtaz Ali Soomro, the Principal of the college told PPI that he has been constantly approaching to the Education Department and the Director, Colleges but till date nothing has been done. He said that the previous governments deliberately ignored this college for political reasons and allegedly tried their best to close this institution but the students very bravely foiled such efforts.
He further said that the college is located about 2 kilometers away from the city and urged the authorities to provide a bus for the male & female students of the city and nearby villages for pick and drop facility as has been provided to Ratodero and Larkana colleges.
Principal also requested for provision of at least 50 P-IV computers, gas connection and a standby generator for the college.
Principal claimed that since 1999 twenty one students of this college have been selected in medical colleges and 18 in engineering colleges which, according to him, is a proof of success of a rural college. He further informed that despite such difficulties the college is running classes from XI to XII in pre-medical/engineering/arts and B.SC/B.A. He also demanded establishment of 20 room hostel with attached washrooms for the students.—PPI
