Several
towns of Thatta remained close on call of Sheerazi
group

THATTA: A strike was observed on Wednesday in
many towns of the district in response to strike
call given by the supporters of Sheerazi group
against lodging of cases against PML-Q leader
Syed Ayaz Shah Sheerazi, former provincial Minister
Syed Ajaz Shah Sheerazi, his son Riyaz Shah,
UC Nazim Syed Fida Hussain Shah and others and
police raids on their houses.
Business activities were suspended in Thatta,
Mirpur Sakro, Gharo, Sijawal, Makli, Mirpur
Bathoro and other towns due to the strike.
Police and Rangers were called in to tackle
any untoward situation. The district administration
tried to open the markets with help of police
but in vain. However, the police arrested more
than 30 supporters of the Sherazi group one
day before the strike from Thatta, Sakro, Gharo,
Sijawal and other areas to fail their strike.
Meanwhile, District Nazim Thatta Syed Shafqat
Shah condemned the arrests, terming it political
victimization of PPP government.
On the other hand, a spokesman of PPP district
Thatta Imtiaz Qureshi termed the strike as failure,
claiming people had rejected Sheerazi group.
