HYDERBAD:
Two minor boys in Diplo Taluka of Tharparkar district,
the home town of former Sindh Chief Minister Arbab
Rahim, were arrested 10 days back under terrorism
act though there names do not appear in FIR lodged
against arson, ransacking and loot at year end
2007 after martyrdom of PPP leader and former
Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. As a result of
hundreds of cases registered by police under terrorism
act scores of people were arrested and threw behind
the bars. Vajuto police also violated the Child
Rights and Juvenile Justice System Ordinance 2000
and arrested two children named Javed and Tariq
(their names are not present in FIR). Later they
were brought to the court of judicial magistrate
Diplo. Protection Manager, Society for Protection
of Rights of Children (SPARC) Sindh Kashif Bajeer
visited the Jail and told the media that according
to the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance 2000,
after arresting the child it is responsibility
of the police that parents be informed within
24 hours but police has failed to inform parents
of arrested kids. The children, according to law,
must be kept separate from adults out of fear
of being sexually harassed. He further told both
children have been in the police custody since
last 10 days.—Agencies
