Pakistan should look for new faces: Mushtaq

DUBAI: Mushtaq Mohammed who played 57 Tests for Pakistan, captained in 1975 and moulded a group of talented individuals (Majid Khan, Imran Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad) into one of top team of the world, says there is no dearth of talent in hiscountry but proper coaching and grooming at grass root level is needed.
Mushtaq, in Dubai to promote his biography called Mushtaq Mohammed Inside Out, asked on state of Pakistan cricket said: ``Every team in world has gone through this phase because when players like Inzamamul Haq, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis leave it takes years to fill void. They are in rebuilding process, patience and persistence is need of hour.''
Mushtaq who coached Pakistan during 1999 World Cup added: ``Pakistan should groom a pair of dependable openers. Pakistan Cricket Board should look out for new faces. ``They kept on rotating tried and tested players (Imran Farhat, Salman Butt, Mohammed Hafeez, Taufiq Umer) which has become a big impediment to develop balanced side. ``Left-handed opener Nasir Jamshed, fast bowler Samiullah Niazi and all-rounder Kamran Hussain were picked for first two games of five-match home series against Zimbabwe. Selectors want to build team for future. In my opinion it can prove big step in right direction.''—Agency
