ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister,
Rehman Malik has said that the foreign elements involved in
deteriorating the law and order situation in Pakistan should
stop their interference, otherwise, their interference would
be resisted.
He was addressing a meeting of the National Standing Committee
for Interior held here on Saturday under the chair of chairman,
Senator Talha Mehmood. He told the committee that: "nothing
is dearer to us more than our image and if Blackwater’s
existence is proved, I will resign". He urged the United
States to release Dr Afia Siddiqui and stop drone attacks
to eliminate hatred amongst the Pakistani people against it.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary Interior, additional
secretary foreign affairs and law secretary. Fauzia Siddiqui,
the sister of Aafia Siddiqui attended the meeting on special
invitation. Malik said that the committee will pass a resolution
for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, which would be sent
to the US president and its attorney general, human rights'
commission Geneva and UN secretary general. The minister said
that it is the need of the hour to start a campaign at the
public level to pressurize the US to release Aafia Siddiqui.
Referring to items recovered from Aafia Siddiqui, he said
that he was not informed about the details of the items and
his ministry has sent a letter to the Federal Bureau Investigation
(FBI) in this connection and it would send one of its officials
to the US and he would bring back details from there. Fauzia
Siddiqui, Sister of Aafia told the meeting that all passports
issued to Dr Aafia Siddiqui are present at home, while her
CNIC is not present.—Agencies |
