LAHORE: Senior most deposed judge of Lahore
High Court, Khawaja Muhammad Sharif said that
the people had mandated the government for restoration
of deposed judges rather than “roti, kapra
and makan” on February 18.
He said this while addressing a meeting of the
lawyers held here as part of weekly protest
campaign for the cause of reinstatement of deposed
judges here on Thursday. Former president of
Supreme Court Bar Association Hamid Khan, president
Lahore High Court Bar Anwar Kamal and secretary
Rana Asad Ullah also spoke on the occasion.
He held Pakistan came into being on August,
14, 1947 following a popular movement while
the movement for independent judiciary and stability
of the country was launched on March, 9, 2007.
The lawyers sacrifices in this regard are unprecedented,
he added.
He alleged the rulers had no potential to contain
inflation and control lawlessness. One who keeps
up one’s promise and does not deceive
the people is a politician, he remarked.
Under Bhurban accord the deposed judges were
required to be restored within 30 days but the
politicians backtracked from their words , he
charged.
There is no substance in the reports that any
one among the deposed judges would take oath
under PCO, he said adding “ it was neither
appropriate nor morally good that lawyers would
be baton charged for the cause of reinstatement
of judges and on the other hand judges would
take oath under PCO. “We will live upto
the expectations of the lawyers and will not
stab dagger into their back”, he vowed.—Agencies
