ISLAMABAD: Activists of Political parties, lawyer
community, civil society organizations and general
public would gather in front of the Supreme
Court building to stage protest demonstration
when the non-functional Chief Justice of Pakistan
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would appear before
the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) today (Wednesday).
The call in this regard has been given separately
by lawyer community and opposition parties who
during the April 24 protest had announced to
hold protest demonstration with full strength
on May 02 on the occasion of appearance of the
CJP before the SJC.
The protest would be held to express solidarity
with non-functional Chief Justice. It would
be the seventh appearance of the non-functional
CJP, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry before the Supreme
Judicial Council after the presidential reference
was moved against him by the government on March
9, 2007.
Meanwhile, Jamat-e-Islami Amir, Islamabad District
Syed Mohammad Bilal on Tuesday vowed that thousands
of workers would gathered in front of the Supreme
Court on Wednesday (today) to express solidarity
with CJP despite arrest of many activists. He
also appealed the general public to fully participate
in the protests for the independence of judiciary.
