Pakistan
cannot get Kashmir by force and the only way out
is thru talks: Mushahid
RT Monitoring Desk
NEW DELHI: Pakistan cannot get Kashmir by force,
Mushahid Hussain, Pakistan Muslim League-Q Secretary
General and Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations
Committee said here while advocating the need
for resolving the matter through dialogue with
India. Mushahid Hussain argued that Kashmir
was the main impediment in the building of relations
between the two “adversary” neighbours
besides hampering India’s chances to grow
as a major global player. “The bottomlines
are clear as far as Kashmir is concerned. We
cannot get Kashmir by force,” he told
PTI here but added that “India too cannot
retain Kashmir by use of force”. “These
days the use of military might has failed. It
has failed in Iraq, it has failed in Afghanistan
and it has failed in Lebanon. It cannot succeed
in Kashmir,” said Hussain, who was closely
involved in the peace initiatives of 1999 when
the Lahore Declaration was signed. Noting that
Kashmir issue remains the “main impediment”
in ties between India and Pakistan, Hussain
said the only way to resolve the issue was through
talks. “But one thing is very clear that
the status quo in Kashmir is no longer tenable.
Not because Pakistan does not want it, but the
main stake holder — the people of Kashmir
has rejected it,” he added. He insisted
that Pakistan has already shown “tremendous
flexibility” and even talked about moving
beyond the stated positions and asked India
to take some “grand initiative”
to break the “logjam” through a
political push.
