166
out of 576 closed schools opened in Umerkot district
UMERKOT: Incharge, Chief Minister’s Monitoring
Committee, District Umerkot, Mohammad Saleem
Nohri, has said that the root cause of education’s
destruction in the district was recruitment
of teachers and officials on political basis.
He told the newsmen on Tuesday that during surprise
visits to many schools across district, the
Monitoring Committee suspended 11 teachers and
opened 166 schools out of 576 closed schools
over the last five months.
Mohammad Saleem said that number of primary,
middle and high schools in district Umerkot
is 2295 while the number of teachers is 3402.
The number of students being imparted education
in these schools is 132158 and the budget of
the teachers and staff of these schools is Rs15
million, he said. He said that negligence and
carelessness of teachers in the schools were
on rise at a time when they started monitoring
in 2006.
He said that teachers, peons and guards of many
schools were found doing their own business
during school timings and there was no official
to ask them.
Mohammad Saleem said that many officials were
found sitting at their air-conditioned rooms
during school times and they did not realize
their responsibility in this regard.
He said that education system in the district
could be raised if government provided army
to them.—Agency
