Govt believes in Freedom of Press, says Elahi

SARGODHA: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Tuesday said that incumbent Government believes in Freedom of Press underlining that only due to prudent policies of General Pervez Musharraf, various private TV channels have opened.
He expressed these views after inaugurating Journalist Colony here and later talking to Journalists in Sargodha Press Club on Tuesday. On the occasion, Elahi said that we have fulfilled our promise and commitment and given a colony to Journalists after Lahore and Multan. He was of the view that we believe in complete Freedom of Press and will not allow any one to throttle it. He said that media is a perfect medium to express and it is the only way that problems of masses and views of leaders is highlighted. Earlier, CM Punjab laid the foundation stone of the Journalist Colony in Kachi Godhi. He was accompanied by Provincial Minister Chaudhry Amir Sultan Cheema, Chaudhry Noor Ali Cheema, Federal Parliamentary Secretary Commerce Mian Mazhar Ahmed Qureshi, District Nazim Sargodha Inam ul Haq Paracha, MNA Gias Ahmed Mela, President Press Club Muhammad Ashraf Nadeem, General Secretary Shaheen, Senior Journalist Sajjad Abbas Niazi and others. CM Punjab also inaugurated under construction roads for Sargodha City with a formal grant worth Rs 2.5 billion. He further added that Punjab Government is grateful to President Musharraf for his keen interests in development work all over the province underlining that during his tenure so far, work is going on swiftly. “Some elements are trying to malign the image of incumbent government with negative propagandas but they must realise by now that it is the first time in the history of Pakistan that it has completed five years without any hindrance”, Elahi held.—Agency
